THE Garapan Revitalization Task Force and the Office of Planning and Development on Thursday informed business owners and residents in the Garapan tourism district that road construction activities will commence this month.
In a public notice, Garapan Revitalization Task Force Chairman and OPD acting Director Christopher A. Concepcion said work on Phase I of the revitalization project is expected to be completed in April 2023. Phase I includes Paseo De Marianas, Plumeria Road, Micro Beach Road, Ginger Avenue, Coconut Street, Coffee Tree Mall, Cpl. Derence Jack Road and Royal Palm Avenue.
Phase II, which will occur between April and September, will cover Beach Road, between Garapan Street and Cpl. Derence Jack Road; Beach Road east side, between Cpl. Derence Jack Road and Micro Beach Road; the rest of Coconut Street, Date Street, a portion of Royal Palm Avenue between Coconut Street and Paseo De Marianas and Coconut Street.
Phase III, which is set for September 2023 to January 2024, will cover the west side of Beach Road, the rest of Palm Street, the south side of Micro Beach Road, and the rest of Coral Tree Avenue.
Phase IV will occur between January 2024 and May 2024, and will cover the stretch of Royal Palm Avenue between Paseo De Marianas and Micro Beach Road, the portion of Coffee Tree Mall between Paseo De Marianas and Micro Beach Road, the portion of Ginger Avenue between Paseo De Marianas and Micro Beach Road, and the portion of Plumeria Avenue between Cpl. Derence Jack Road and the rest of Coconut St.
In an interview on Thursday, Concepcion said the task force and OPD under the administration of Gov. Arnold I. Palacios and Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang “are very pleased to see continued progress on this much-anticipated project.”
He said the Garapan Revitalization Project will transform Saipan’s main tourism district into a world-class destination.
“We ask for everyone’s patience and support as we begin our construction work by phase. Each phase will take a few months so expect minimal inconveniences as we work toward rehabilitating Garapan Core. The long-term effect of this project on our economy is tremendous. Let’s get this project moving so our tourists and residents have something new and exciting to look forward to,” Concepcion said.
