Coral reef monitoring workshop wraps up

The first day of the event was spent on introduction of participants and objectives of the workshop, as well as review of some updates from each jurisdiction, namely, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Territory of Guam, Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau.

Presentations on different strategies and monitoring methods were laid out on the second day.

The third day was mainly about group activities and discussions on effectiveness of coral reef monitoring. Among the topic of discussions was to “identify monitoring methods to measure incremental results from marine-focused results chains developed during the first Micronesia Challenge meeting.”

On the fourth day, preparation of framework was introduced; and the minutes of discussion were signed.

The more than 50 participants from different agencies and organizations, such as Marshall Islands Marine Resources Authority, University of Hawaii, Guam Coastal Management Program, and Conservation Society of Pohnpei, capped the fourth day of the workshop with a farewell party at Riptide Restaurant.
