HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — A grand jury indictment has been handed down against the two suspects accused in last month’s fatal shooting of Sumittra Lairopi.
Domingo Chargualaf Mendiola is facing eight charges related to robbery and aggravated murder.
The grand jury found cause to charge Mendiola with the murder of Lairopi. The first charge in the indictment alleges that Mendiola intended to cause Lairopi’s death as he robbed her on Feb. 14.
Charge two being first-degree robbery, the indictment stated Mendiola “intentionally inflicted serious bodily injury” on Lairopi while committing theft of property.
Charges one and two carry the special allegation that Mendiola used a weapon, namely a gun, in the commission of the crimes.
He was indicted on Feb. 29 on charges of aggravated murder, first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm without a firearm identification card and destruction of evidence, as well as violation of a court order.
His girlfriend and alleged accomplice, Jenna Rose Calinagan Manibusan, was indicted on five charges.
Manibusan is charged with complicity to commit aggravated murder, complicity to commit first-degree robbery, complicity to commit theft of a motor vehicle and theft by receiving.
Charge 11 of the indictment alleged that Manibusan was complicit in the robbery and that either she or Mendiola performed an overt act in an attempt to rob another individual.
“By returning to the residential building … after following and tracking her movements,” the indictment stated.
Post files stated a witness told investigators that Mendiola and Manibusan were going to rob a different woman, but the woman went into a residence before they could complete the robbery.
Post files state Lairopi was shot as she was walking out of the Thai Thai Healthy Cuisine restaurant in Tamuning.
Mendiola is accused of shooting Lairopi and stealing her car. He allegedly needed money for an “owed drug debt.”
