THE Commonwealth Ports Authority will again charge a parking fee at the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport.
In a public notice on Monday, CPA Executive Director Christopher Tenorio said the booth at the entrance to the airport’s public parking lot will resume its daily operations on Sept. 15, 2022.
CPA stopped the operation of the parking booth at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic early in 2020 in consideration since no flights were coming in due to travel restrictions, Tenorio said in a telephone interview.
Now that Saipan airport is again receiving daily flights, “we are just reinstating what the public had been paying prior to the pandemic,” Tenorio said, adding that there was no change in the amount of the parking fee.
“The fees had been like that since the booth stopped collecting two years ago,” he said.
At the booth, a machine dispenses a plastic card for a motorist entering the parking lot. The motorist has to return the card while he or she pays the parking fee on her/his way out.
A $2 fee will be charged for the first hour or a fraction of it, and an additional $2 will be charged for an additional hour or a fraction of it. For 24-hour parking, the fee is $15, and an additional $2 for every additional hour.
If the customer loses the card, he/she will be charged $15 and the amount of parking fee for the time parked. The customer who lost the card may be required to park on the side to allow other customers to exit first and then give time for the parking booth attendant to check the system to resolve the matter.
A customer with a valid accessible parking placard will not be charged as long as the person who was issued the placard is present in the vehicle. All parking fees are non-refundable.
