A CYCLIST was injured after he was struck by a Toyota Tacoma early Thursday morning, according to the Department of Public Safety.
DPS public information officer Sgt. Fred Sato, in a media release, stated that on July 13, at about 12:29 a.m., DPS 911 dispatch received a call about a reported auto crash on Chalan Pale Arnold Road, southwest of U-Luck Poker II in Gualo Rai.
An officer arrived at the scene around 12:30 a.m. and observed a bicyclist lying on the roadway marked with pedestrian crosswalks.
The bicyclist had visible injuries and was immediately transported to the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation by Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services medics.
“A witness informed the officer that a silver Toyota Tacoma was driving on the northbound outer lane of Chalan Pale Arnold Road,” Sato said. “As the truck traveled north, the bicyclist exited the parking area, headed west from the poker arcade driveway, and entered the roadway. The northbound silver pickup struck the bicyclist. The pickup driver stopped on the shoulder of the roadway but left the scene without getting down,” Sato added.
At 12:55 a.m., a patrol officer located the silver Toyota pickup and the driver at a residence in Garapan.
The driver was arrested for driving under the influence and reckless driving. He was then transported to the Department of Corrections to be booked and detained, Sato said.
The case remains under further investigation, he said.
No other information was provided regarding the injured cyclist or the driver.
