Debating the interests of Ngarchelong

The debate allowed for the residents of the state to gauge the political stature of the candidates as well as their prospects on issues relating to the environment, education, tourism, and the economy.

Chief Uong er Etei Victor Joseph had expressed, during the welcoming remarks of the debate, the difficulty of choice that every resident voter has to make on Election Day, in that all of the candidates are, despite having differing views, looking to make changes in the interest of the state; and that each of them is capable of ensuring that the changes take place.  He further asked that everyone, however the outcome of the election might be, elect to support the victor for the duration of his or her term. The candidates, on the other hand, each vowed to support and to promote peaceful campaigns – without talks defaming other candidates. Everyone present during the debate applauded the candidates for their willingness to run to represent Ngarchelong and for the effort that each have taken to ensure that personal attacks have not and will not surface during their campaigns. After answering all the questions raised, the candidates thanked the organizers of the debate and the residents for the opportunity that they were able present themselves together in pursuit of a common goal in an open, peaceful, and democratic forum.
