Travis August, technical assistant of SWM said the JPPFL-DPJ delegates visited the recycling facility and those garbage equipments donated by non-profit organizations in Japan.
They also offered assistance for the recycling activities of the SWM as well as the other projects of the national agency.
Travis said that as part of the bilateral relationship between Palau and Japan, delegates wanted to help Palau for its development projects.
Koror State Gov. Yositaka Adachi along with the Koror State Legislators welcomed the delegation.
The delegation arrived in Palau last week. They stayed in the Island from July 15 to 19. Representing the JPPFL-DPJ delegation areHon. Akira Uchiyama – Chairman of the League, Mr. Masazumi Nakajima – Secretary General of the League,Mr. Yasunori Saito – Secretariat, and members of the League, Mr. Kentarou Motomura, Mr. Kouichirou Katsumata, and Mr. Hideyuki Takahashi.
The aim of the Parliamentarians visit was to introduce the newly seated officers of the JPPFL-DPJ and to strengthen the friendly relationship between the two nations.
According to Ambassador Sadaoka, “This is the biggest Japanese Parliamentarian delegation visited Palau since it gained its Independence in 1994.” This reinforces Ambassador Sadaoka’s remarks at the Opening of the April 2010 Regular Session of the House of Delegates, as he emphasized the importance of people exchange programs between Japan and Palau, especially in light of the change in generations and the changes in the leadership of both Governments. Ambassador Sadaoka also attributes the visit to H.E. Minoru Ueki, Ambassador of Palau to Japan, who has done a great job communicating with these Parliamentary members and encouraging their association to this league of friendship.
The group also paid courtesy calls to Hon. Mlib Tmetuchl – President of the Senate, Hon. Noah Idechong – Speaker of the House of Delegates, H.E. Johnson Toribiong – President of the Republic of Palau, Hon. Victor M. Yano – Minister of State, and Ibedul Yutaka M. Gibbons and Reklai Bao Ngirmang – Paramount High Chiefs.
They also visited Japanese ODA projects including the Palau International Coral Reef Center, and OISCA Agriculture Training Center in Aimeliik as well as the Palau’s historical, cultural, and tourist sites.
