According to an article from the Yap State Government Mr. Randy Rohan, Flight Operation Manager, and two other colleagues from Delta Airlines recently paid a brief courtesy call on the Governor and Lt. Governor of Yap State.
In that meeting, Rohan said team will also conduct preliminary visits in Palau and other alternate airports such as Cebu and Yap airport.
Delta will be flying a new route to Palau from Narita, Japan on December 22, 2010
Delta will be flying a Boeing-757 with 182 passenger seats.
The airline will be flying to Palau via Narita, Japan four times weekly.
The United States Department of Transportation (DOT) approved the application of the airline to start new nonstop service between its Tokyo, Japan hub and Palau.
Delta currently operates flights from Nagoya (Centrair) to Detroit, Guam, Saipan and Manila.
The planned flight is in addition to new international chartered flights scheduled to fly to Palau this year.
Korean Air, the largest airline and flag carrier of South Korea begun a twice –weekly flight to the country in July.
Philippine-based carrier Spirit of Manila has started charter flights in Palau last month.
Two airlines based in Taiwan and Hong Kong are also servicing the Palau route this year.
Other airlines currently offering service to and from Palau are Japan Air Lines with charter flights from Tokyo; China Airlines with charter flights from Taipei, Taiwan; Asiana Airlines from Korea .

Palau is a known scuba diving destination in Japan. In addition to divers, the island has been attracting tourists interested in its well-preserved natural environment.
Nearly 30,000 Japanese tourists visit Palau each year.
