DOCOMO Pacific Saipan has donated $5,000 to the American Red Cross-NMI chapter’s gala that will be held on Feb. 26 at Kensington Hotel.
Docomo Pacific Saipan general manager Pauline Johnson and brand manager Brent Deleon Guerrero presented the check to ARC-NMI chapter executive director John Hirsh and board members at the Docomo Pacific Saipan office in Gualo Rai on Wednesday.
Hirsh said they are very pleased that Docomo Pacific is once again supporting the Red Cross fundraising gala.
Docomo Pacific, he added, has been a very longtime supporter of the ARC-NMI chapter, and has been involved with the Red Cross mission and work for over 20 years now.
“We are so grateful to Brent and Pauline and everyone here at Docomo for helping support a humanitarian mission,” Hirsh said, adding that the funds they raise go back to the community to help people, “and that is the way it should be.”
No Club 200 this year
This year’s ARC-NMI gala will be different, Hirsh said.
“We are not able to do a large [event because of the Covid-19 pandemic], so it’s not a Club 200. And we are not doing it on the beach like we normally do,” he said. This year’s gala is a “more formal corporate dinner, so all of our corporate sponsors are going to come in.”
Hometown heroes
The gala will be a “celebration of hometown heroes,” Hirsh said, adding that they will recognize “a whole bunch” of local front liners who have been involved in helping people in the community. These include customer service staff, firefighters, first responders and other emergency response personnel.
But just like in the previous years’ Club 200, there will be dinner, drinks and dancing.
Happy to help
Docomo Pacific Saipan general manager Pauline Johnson said they are very happy to contribute more to the Red Cross this year.
She noted that the Red Cross, among other things, provides assistance to people who have lost their homes during natural disasters such as typhoons.
“[W]ith the Covid-19 pandemic that is going on, we are very happy that we are able to increase our donation this year,” she added.
Docomo Pacific Saipan brand manager Brent Deleon Guerrero, for his part, said that given the circumstances now with the Covid-19 pandemic, “I think it’s a lot more crucial for the businesses to do their part by donating to nonprofit organizations like Red Cross and not to wait for a disaster to strike.”
