THE Saipan Mayor’s Office Dog Control Program and the Saipan Humane Society are asking   community members to adopt or look after the dogs and puppies that are at the dog control facility in As Lito in preparation for Tropical Storm Mawar.

Saipan Humane Society co-founder Lauren Cabrera said these friendly animals need a safe place to stay during the storm and even a few days after.

She said they are anticipating power and water outages, and are hoping that the dogs and puppies will have a clean place to stay while the island recovers from the storm.

“It’s hard not knowing how bad the storm will be. If we lose power we cannot clean the dog poop because we won’t have water, and the puppies will just get sick from it,” Cabrera said.

She said Saipan Humane Society will also provide an update to the community about the progress of the veterinary clinic, which is set for Tuesday, May 23.

“We are watching weather conditions closely and will adjust our plans as needed to maximize the safety of our clients. Please watch our Facebook and Instagram for updates,” she said.

“If you are able to help, please reach out on social media or by Whatsapp message at (670) 838-7387.”

Jenn and Rudy Guerrero and their boys are opening their hearts and home to foster one of the many adoptable dogs from the mayor's shelter in collaboration with Saipan Humane Society. In preparation ahead of Typhoon Mawar, SHS is asking for families to foster these dogs at least until the storm passes. Foster families are provided with dog food, puppy pads and a dog lead. Foster families can also adopt their foster if they choose. Contact saipanhumanesociety.org for more information.
