Donations for typhoon victims in Taiwan pour in

The estimated loss of agricultural products only registers with hundreds of millions US Dollars. As one of the worst natural disasters ever inflicted on Taiwan in its modern history, the people and government have devoted all within their power and resources to the rescue and inevitably ensuing reconstruction efforts.

The ROC Government has by now received messages of care and condolences from its fifty some allied and friendly countries, including the United States, Japan, the Holy See, St. Christopher, St. Lucia, Guatemala, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Hungary, Israel, South Korea, South Africa, Nauru and Solomon Islands. Some countries, e. g. the United States, Japan, the Mainland China (P.R.C.), Singapore and St. Lucia, graciously offered relief funds and humanitarian assistances. H. E. President Johnson Toribiong is the first foreign head of state to convey his sympathy and condolences in writing to H. E. President Ma Ying-jeou. The Palauan Judiciary extended their condolences to people in Taiwan by presenting a bouquet to the ROC Embassy in Palau. The Acting Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in the Republic of China, Ambassador Francisco Santana of El Salvador conveyed to the ROC’s Foreign Minister Francisco H. L. Ou, the consolatory note of heartfelt sympathy, on behalf of all diplomats stationed in Taipei.The ROC Government records here its warmest acknowledgements to all the kindness, and has set up a relief account to facilitate donations.
