THERE is “some evidence” that the Department of Public Safety misused federal funds, Rep. Edwin Propst said when asked about the initial findings of the transition team, which he heads.
“[We’re] currently working on finishing the recommendation and report,” Propst told Variety.
Asked if they will forward their findings to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Propst said: “I did notice a recommendation for an audit by the Office of the Public Auditor. Not sure about FBI. Will need to check.”
Another source who declined to be identified said the transition team that reviewed DPS and CNMI Homeland Security has noted “spending anomalies” involving vehicle fuel, rental vehicles and transfer of ownership of a federally funded government vehicle, among other things.
The transition report and recommendations are being prepared and will soon be released to the public, Variety was told.
Gov.-elect Arnold I. Palacios and Lt. Gov.-elect David M. Apatang will be sworn in on Monday, Jan. 9, 2023.
Police vehicles are parked at the Department of Public Safety headquarters in Susupe.
