SHANE Mendiola, an officer with the Boating Safety unit of the Department of Public Safety (not a patrol officer as earlier reported), has been placed on administrative duty after he was accused of assaulting his girlfriend on Wednesday evening.
“We are currently looking into the case, but as of right now the officer involved has since been stripped [of his firearm] and placed on administrative duty,” Department of Public Safety spokesman Dre Pangelinan said Thursday.
Mendiola is the step-son of DPS Commissioner Robert Guerrero, Variety learned from other sources.
Pangelinan said he will provide additional details about the case once the investigation process has been completed.
Other details about the alleged incident have been posted and shared online, but Variety is still trying to confirm if they’re true.
Variety was also unable to get a comment from the DPS chief.
