Drunken driver charged for the death of a Ngchesar State employee

The driver was charged last week with involuntary manslaughter, driving under the influence, consumption of alcohol by a minor, reckless driving and speeding.

Assistant Attorney General Elizabeth A. Avore in the two pages information submitted in court, said that the driver did “unlawfully take the life of another, Danton Naruo” on August 23, 2008.The information stated that the defendant “did drive a vehicle upon a highway while under the influence of liquor.”The information stated that defendant “did consume alcohol while under the age of 21 and that he drive a vehicle with gross, willfull or wanton disregard of the lives of safety of the public.”The affidavit stated that on August 23 at 3:11 a.m., police responded to a car accident at the Japan-Palau Friendship Bridge.The responding officers saw an overturned sedan with three unconscious passengers inside.The driver was standing close to the Koror side of the bridge in a blood-covered shirt.The three passengers were transported to the hospital where Danton Naruo, who was employed at the Ngchesar State as a water pump operator, was pronounced dead later.The affidavit stated that Field Sobriety Test and Breathalyzer test were administered and defendant failed the tests.The defendant admitted later to the police that he drank beer and vodka  prior to the driving.The defedant told probers that he was driving at a speed of approximately 80-100 kilometers per hour and lost control of his car while passing another vehicle.The vehicle then hit the concrete wall three times and flipped over.Naruo died as a result of the accident.The affidavit stated that defendant was under the age of 21 at the time of the incident.
