Families complete food & nutrition program at CHCC Family to Family Health Information Center

(CHCC) — Thirteen families recently completed a nutrition education program at the CHCC Family to Family Health Information Center.

The program was made possible through a partnership between the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation’s Public Health Services and Northern Marianas College’s Expanded Food & Nutrition Program or EFNEP.

The nutrition education sessions were facilitated by EFNEP staff members and included nine lessons focused on making healthy food choices, preparing healthy and delicious meals, and making smart choices when purchasing food products and produce.

Each lesson provided hands-on activities, group discussions, and an opportunity for each participant to share feedback and apply newly learned skills. Families were provided enhancements or prizes related to nutrition or healthy meals as part of the program.

The Family-to-Family Health Information Center or F2F HIC is a program under CHCC Public Health Services which serves families who have children and youth with special health care needs.

F2F HIC offers families support by helping them navigate and access available community resources that are critical for the health and development of their children.

Other services provided by F2F HIC include:

•  Training for parent leaders

• Learning sessions for parent/caregivers and professionals on a variety of health topics and related areas

• Information and support in accessing community resources; referral assistance

• Peer to peer support

• Computer and printer (for accessing information, application forms, etc.)

• Books and resources to support understanding of different kinds of disabilities
