Fiji tourism targets $1.87B in revenue

SUVA (Fiji Live/Pacnews) — Fiji’s deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism Viliame Gavoka is optimistic that at the rate at which the tourism market is growing, Fiji could see F$4.2 billion (US$1.87 billion) in revenue in the next four years.

Speaking at the launch of Fiji’s National Sustainable Tourism Framework, Gavoka said over 80,000 visitors traveled to Fiji alone in May.

He said May was a record month and a significant increase of 10.3% in tourist arrivals was recorded compared to a year earlier.

This is an increase of 7.3% compared to April.

“We broke records with key markets, our national airline opened new routes, hotels reported near full occupancy, investments are breaking group. This is why we need to nurture the industry to its full potential so that we, and the generation to come, reap its benefit,” Gavoka said.

He said the Reserve Bank of Fiji has also indicated that the tourism sector holds huge promise for Fiji.

He added that the tourism sector is more committed to working together so that tourism not only prospers on its own but uplifts other sectors.

In 2023, F$3.2 billion (US$1.42 billion) was directly contributed by the tourism sector to the Fijian economy.
