Filipino group to hold ‘Pink Caravan’ for Philippine presidential candidate Leni Robredo

THE Bicol Association of Saipan will hold a “Pink Caravan” for Philippine Vice President Leni Robredo, who is running for president, on Feb. 13 starting at 3 p.m.

Robredo’s supporters will gather at the Bicol Association pavilion in Susupe then head south and proceed to the north on the back road before returning to their starting point, Bicol Association President Noel Ordas said.

Ordas is inviting interested Filipino voters on Saipan to join the convoy “to show support and raise awareness for the candidacy of Leni Robredo.”

“We believe that Leni Robredo is the right person for the presidency of the Philippines. She has a clear and good vision and platform for the Filipino people,” Ordas said.

Robredo, who will be 57 in April, is the first Philippine vice president from the Bicol region which is south of Manila. A lawyer who also has a degree in economics, she served in the public defender’s office before joining a nongovernment organization that provided free legal aid to the poor.

Sandra O. Romero, a Bicol Association group member, said she was a classmate of the presidential candidate in elementary and high school at the Universidad de Santa Isabel in Naga City, Camarines Sur.

“We know that Leni is really fighting for what is best for the Filipino people, especially the underserved segment of society,” Romero said.

Robredo is the only candidate with a “clean track record” and is not corrupt, Romero added.

She noted that Robredo spends most of her office’s annual budget, which is “small,” on projects that benefit ordinary people.

The other candidates for Philippine president are former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. who narrowly lost to Robredo in the 2016 election, Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, boxing legend Sen. Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and labor unionist Leodegario “Ka Leody” Quitain de Guzman.

The current president, Rodrigo Duterte, was elected in May 2016 and is barred by the constitution from seeking another term.
