IN April, the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services said it responded to four fire incidents on separate occasions.
Vehicle fire
On the early morning of April 7, the fire department received a call from a man regarding a vehicle fire in Santa Lourdes.
At 2:02 a.m., Engine-4, Engine-2, and Medic-4 responded to the location. At 2:07 a.m., Engine-4 was the first to arrive on the scene and found that the garage and vehicle were fully engulfed. At 2:15 a.m., responders reported that the fire was under control.
According to DFEMS, the fire caused severe to moderate heat and smoke damage to an open parking garage constructed of wood and tin; a vehicle; and a four-bedroom, two- bathroom fully concrete structure.
The area of origin was located northeast of the garage, DFEMS stated.
Witnesses told investigators that a member of the household was cleaning the yard at around 4 p.m. and was burning the vegetation/debris he had gathered and extinguished the fire at around 6:30 p.m.
Further investigation revealed that the location of the vegetation/debris fire was about 10 – 12 feet east of the area of origin. Fire patterns revealed that the fire traveled east of the garage to west of the concrete structure. The fire department classified the blaze as accidental.
A/C
On April 7, at around 10:47 a.m., the fire department received a 911 call regarding an air-conditioner that had caught fire in a San Antonio residence.
Engine-2 and Rescue-1 responded to the location. Rescue-1 was the first to arrive on the scene and found that the fire was extinguished by a family member staying in the house prior to Rescue-1’s arrival.
Initial scene observations by investigators revealed that the fire was in one of the bedrooms located on the northwest side of the structure.
Additional investigation showed that the area of origin was located where the air conditioner was placed. The fire department classified the fire as accidental (electrical fire).
Golf cart
On April 9, 2022, at approximately 5:24 p.m., a man called 911 to report that there was a golf cart on fire at Laolao Bay Golf & Resort.
At 5:25 p.m., Engine-4 and Medic-4 responded to the location. At 5:28 p.m., Medic-4 was the first to arrive on the scene and found that a golf cart was on fire.
At 5:31 p.m., the fire was extinguished with a fire extinguisher used by Medic-4 personnel.
DFEMS fire investigators Francisco Iginoef and Stanley Santos Jr. conducted an initial scene observation, and stated that the fire was isolated to a golf cart parked in the garage on the eastern side.
According to the fire department, based on scene investigations and interviews, the area of origin was located under the driver’s seat of the golf cart.
Investigation also showed that the golf cart sustained minor to moderate heat and smoke damage. Investigators classified the fire as accidental (electrical fire).
Structure fire
On April 9, at approximately 1:27 p.m., a man called 911 to report that there was heavy smoke coming out of MJ Catering behind Kristo Rai Church in Garapan, the fire department stated.
At 1:29 p.m., Engine-2, Medic-2, and Rescue-1 responded to the location. At 1:32 p.m., Engine-2 was the first to arrive on the scene and found that the kitchen of the catering business was on fire.
At 1:36 p.m., the blaze was under control by the firefighters.
Based on scene investigations and interviews, the fire was isolated to one area that sustained moderate heat and smoke damage.
Further investigation revealed that the area of origin was located in the northeast part of the structure, within the main kitchen. Fire investigators classified the fire accidental (kitchen fire).
