First Resident Ambassador of Japan arrives at post

The Government of Japan appointed His Excellency Yoshiyuki Sadaoka on January 15, 2010.On the same day, His Majesty Emperor Akihito attested the credentials of H.E. Sadaoka at the Imperial Palace.

The appointment of a full-fledged Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Palau signifies the importance of the bilateral relationship between Japan and Palau.In recent years, the Embassy of Japan in Palau has been represented by Ambassador Sato who is the resident Ambassador of Japan to FSM.Under him, Charge d’Affaires Mr. Masayuki Takashima conducted day-to-day business here in Palau.Moreover, the appointment and accreditation of Ambassador Sadaoka is an act of reciprocity as the Embassy of the Republic of Palau in Tokyo has been represented by Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary residing in Tokyo since its inception.

Ambassador Sadaoka joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Japan in 1974.He has served in Austria, South Korea, China, Belgium, the Philippines, and the United States.His latest overseas post was Consul General in Detroit, U.S.A. His most recent posts at home were Deputy Director for the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Intelligence and Research Office and Director General for International Affairs, House of Councilors.

H.E. Sadaoka was born in Kochi prefecture of Shikoku Island, Japan.His wife, Mrs. Yoshiko Sadaoka, will join the Ambassador in late February.
