FORMER Tinian Mayor Ramon Muna Dela Cruz has been elected as president of the NMI Republican Party on Tinian.
The island’s Republicans convened in the residence of one of its members to elect a new set of officers.
Elected first vice president was Matthew Masga; second vice president, Joseph T. San Nicolas; treasurer, Susan Perez; and secretary, Bernie Cruz Palacios.
In an interview on Thursday, Dela Cruz said his brother, former Sen. Jose Dela Cruz, who had been the acting party president since the 2020 election, wanted to help the GOP and the municipality in a different capacity.
Party officials then invited the former mayor to a meeting where he was nominated for president and elected unanimously.
A former senator, Dela Cruz served as Tinian mayor from 2009 to 2014. He currently represents Tinian on the Commonwealth Casino Commission.
Tinian Mayor Edwin Aldan and the rest of the island’s GOP leadership want the former mayor to lead the Tinian Republican Party.
Dela Cruz said he accepted their support because he saw how the Tinian leaders are doing a great job for the island’s community.
“I am very satisfied with their performance and happy with their accomplishments. They truly are working hard for the good of the people,” the former mayor said.
