Free UOG workshop offers healthy twists on holiday favorites

(UOG) — For residents seeking to stay on a healthy track during the holidays, the Guam SNAP-Ed program, through the University of Guam Land Grant Extension Service, will host a free nutrition education workshop focused on holiday favorites.

The four-part workshop—titled “Savor the Season: Small Steps Toward Big Change”—will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays, Dec. 16 to Jan. 6, in the Agriculture & Life Sciences Building, Room 127, on the UOG campus.

Participants will learn how to create healthy versions of favorite local holiday dishes while staying within budget. Featured recipes include:

  • Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Pancakes

  • Riyeñu (CHamoru Stuffing)

  • Påstit Kalamasa (Pumpkin Turnovers)

  • Brown Rice Chalakilis

“The holidays are a challenging time to be healthy, but we’re excited to share some simple and practical ways people can enjoy holiday parties and foods without guilt and stay aligned with their wellness goals,” said Ella Macatugal, SNAP-Ed extension associate. Macatugal will co-lead the workshop with Dr. Tanisha Aflague, a registered dietitian nutritionist with UOG Land Grant.

Attendees are encouraged to join all four sessions. Those who attend at least three will receive free educational enhancement tools.

Registration is free and open to adults ages 18 to 59. Sign up at https://url.uog.edu/savor-the-season.
