PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Services) — On Sept. 18, 2022, David W. Panuelo, president of the Federated States of Micronesia, was received by the secretary-general of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, for a courtesy call.
Over the course of the meeting, the secretary-general commended President Panuelo and the FSM for its leadership, and the leadership of other small island developing states, in tackling climate change.
President Panuelo and the secretary-general discussed continued support from the United Nations into the FSM and the North Pacific via the multi-country office hosted in Pohnpei.
The president and the secretary-general also exchanged views on Covid-19-related economic recovery, and on cooperation between the United Nations and the Pacific Islands Forum.
President Panuelo also talked about the mechanics of the Suva Agreement and the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent.
