WITH eight days left before the start of the 2022 Pacific Mini Games, the organizing committee and the Garapan Revitalization Task Force are asking business and property owners in the tourist district to help showcase the island’s beauty and hospitality.
The task force chairman, Christopher A. Concepcion, and Northern Marianas Pacific Mini Games 2022 Organizing Committee Chief Executive Officer Vicente “Ben” Babauta wrote a joint letter to business operators and property owners regarding the upcoming regional sports event that the CNMI is hosting for the first time, from June 17 to 25.
The organizing committee expects over 1,800 athletes, sports officials and visitors from 20 participating countries and territories.
Concepcion and Babauta told the business owners that with the CNMI’s tourism industry still recovering from the devastating impact of Covid-19, this new influx of visitors to the islands will be a “welcome boost for businesses that rely on tourist arrivals to sustain their operations and generate revenue.”
Businesses and property owners are encouraged “to showcase our famous island hospitality by beautifying your property in any way possible,” which includes undertaking some of these beautification efforts:
• Repainting any public-facing portion of the building and/or residence.
• Properly discarding all waste material within and around the property.
• Sprucing up adjacent areas around the property.
• Planting, trimming and/or maintaining grass, shrubs, flowers, trees, and other plant materials.
• Showcasing support of the CNMI or other national team by displaying flags, banners, or other Pacific Mini Games paraphernalia.
• Welcoming visitors with a warm “Hafa Adai & Tirow” greeting.
Concepcion and Babauta said, “These efforts are voluntary and highly encouraged. No subsidies or compensation will be provided should you choose to undertake them.”
