Gas prices up by 15 cents; diesel, 20 cents

MOBIL Oil Marianas raised the prices of its gasoline by 15 cents, and its  diesel by 20 cents Thursday night.

From $5.96 a gallon, Mobil’s regular gas price is now $6.11 a gallon. The premium gas price went up to $6.56 a gallon from $6.41 a gallon, and diesel to $6.98 a gallon from $6.78 a gallon.

As of 1 p.m. Friday, Shell Marianas’ gas price was still $5.96 a gallon. But Shell was expected to raise its prices soon.

Francis Malicsi, a graphic artist, said he is  a “bit lucky” because he has a car that is gas efficient even though it is old. He said his $50 worth of gas can last three weeks.

But he said he still feels the impact of the fuel price increases on his utility bills. He also pays rent and buys groceries the prices of which, he noted, are also being affected by the fuel price increases.

FOX Business News reported Thursday that “gas prices remain elevated due to increasing geopolitical tensions and high demand for travel.”

“Two factors lead to pressure on pump prices, hitting drivers right in the wallet — rising domestic demand for gasoline and surging global crude oil prices,” American Automobile Association  spokesperson Andrew Gross told FOX Business.

“As of midday Thursday, U.S. West Texas Intermediate traded around $108 a barrel. It climbed $5.40 a barrel on Wednesday after the European Union’s top official on Wednesday called on the 27-nation bloc to ban oil imports from Russia,” according to Gross.
