SHELL Marianas and Mobil Oil Marianas on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively increased their fuel prices, for the second time this month.

The regular gas price went up to $5.56 a gallon from $5.51 a gallon; the premium gas price, to $6.01 a gallon from $5.96 a gallon; and  diesel price, to $5.98 a gallon from $5.83 a gallon.

As of Wednesday, Tinian Fuel Services had not implemented the fuel price increase but its regular gas price had gone up to $7.34 a gallon from $7.17 a gallon, and diesel, to $7.64 a gallon from $7.44 a gallon following the price increase early this month.

Calvo Enterprises on Rota also had not raised its prices on Wednesday, but after the fuel price hike earlier this month, its regular gas price was set at $6.99 a gallon and diesel cost $9.92 a gallon.

Boat operator Tony Brown, who spends $300 a month on gasoline for his vehicle, said no matter how many times the gas price increases, people will still have to buy it. “We cannot survive without gas, so we have to make money for the gas,” he said.

Brown, who drives from Kagman to Garapan every day for his work, said the gas price increases mean “we have to spend more, we have to work more and we have to make more money.”

According to the BBC, “Oil prices have risen in recent weeks as producers have tried to restrict output. Oil rich nations such as Saudi Arabia and Russia that form part of a group called Opec+ have cut back production. They are grappling with slow demand as economies around the world struggle with high prices and the adjustment after the Covid pandemic.”

The U.S. Energy Information Administration, for its part, has forecast that “crude oil prices will increase through 2024 as demand rises above supply.”
