Gates leads in Angaur State election

Based on the Palau Election Commission (PEC) unofficial results, Gates garnered 97 votes over

Salii who got 81 votes and Misech with 46 votes.

According to PEC Administrative Specialist II Maria Decherong-Simer, out of 457 registered voters, only 233 cast their votes.

Meanwhile, for the legislature candidates, Leon Gulibert garnered 141 votes; Carlos Ramon and Joshua Lewis have both got 130 votes; Warren Fukuichi, 109 votes; Flavin Misech, 92 votes; Oliver Kasiano, 90 votes; Ignacio Santiago, 88 votes; Wilbur Telei Jr, 84 votes andRodrick Blaco with 66 votes.

Among the nine candidates, only five will be elected to occupy the legislative seats.

The PEC said there were originally 12 legislature candidates vying for the seats. However, only nine were approved by the Commission to be qualified to run in the position.

Simer said the results will be certified within 15 days from the day of election. She said they are waiting for the absentee voting ballots to arrive next week before they will they certify the results.

There were two polling places set by the PEC during the election, one at the election office for the central and one at the State office for the proper box.

The next State to conduct its election is Ngatpang. The election will be held on December.
