German govt. provides funds for Solar Water Heater for PCC Hospitality School

The solar water heater system, according to Dr. Patrick Tellei, President of PCC, goes hand in hand with the school’s vision to take care of the environment, to go green, and use more alternative and appropriate technology.

“It is a great addition to the facility,” Tellei said to Ambassador Lortsch during the signing of agreement for the grant on Monday. “With your support, the PTHSE is coming into fruition. The construction is right on schedule.”

“This small, humble contribution is two-fold: one is for education and the other is for preserving the environment,” Ambassador Lortsch said. “I’m happy to hear about the progress of the PTHSE construction.”

The Tourism School, which is housed inside the PCC Campus, is a joint venture among the Ministry of Education, PCC and BTA. In January last year, a Memorandum of Agreement was signed among the three parties. PCC donated an old dorm building for the school’s location.

“This facility will assist in training and re-training of those who are working in the tourism and hospitality industries and those who want to come and be trained in the different aspects of tourism,” Tellei added. “We also hope that we can attract students from other region.”

PTHSE is accepting students for all other programs, so it hopes to get people trained from other islands. The Tourism school aims to train and equip students with a range of skills, knowledge and confidence needed for Palau’s growing tourism industry, BTA said.

According to Tellei, currently, PCC already has hospitality/tourism students. But the facility will be put into operations this fall.
