GFD responding to possible fire at Cocos Island

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — Units from the Guam Fire Department are responding to a possible fire reported at Cocos Island.

At 10:28 a.m., the E911 center received multiple calls regarding a possible fire at Cocos Island, according to GFD spokesperson Nick Garrido.

“GFD Rescue and Engine personnel are currently en route via GFD Rescue Vessel to conduct an assessment to determine their course of action,” Garrido shared with local media at 11:16 a.m.

Garrido added that the Department of Agriculture’s Aquatic and Wildlife Division will be utilizing their vessel to bring DOAG’s Forestry Division to assist with the efforts.

It was not confirmed whether there were people on Cocos Island at the time the fire was reported.
