THE Girls Scouts of the USA, the largest voluntary organization in the world for girls, is celebrating its 110th anniversary this year.
In the CNMI, Gov. Ralph DLG Torres on Tuesday marked the occasion by designating March as Girl Scouts Month, and March 6 to 12, 2022 as Girl Scouts Week in the Commonwealth.
The proclamation states that the Girls Scouts of the USA is a vital organization for girls who are growing up, enabling them to develop self-esteem and leadership skills, and providing an atmosphere of warm and true friendship.
“The Girl Scouts program not only reflects the enduring values and standards that have been part of an organization since 1912, but also lends itself to the special and unique situation of girls in the new millennium,” the proclamation stated.
It added that the Girl Scout program has been a channel for girls of all ages to make important contributions to their communities, including here in the Northern Marianas.
At the proclamation ceremony held on Tuesday in the governor’s conference room, Junior Girl Scout Kyrie Sarai K. Palec read the proclamation.
Prior to signing the proclamation, Governor Torres said, “I encourage everyone to support in every way the activities and endeavors of the NMI Girl Scouts. With a mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place, let us celebrate their accomplishments and continue to empower our young daughters to become strong, independent women ready to lead our Commonwealth.”
“To the young girl scouts, keep it up. Enjoy the program,” he added.
