Governor allocates $6M in ARPA funds for 300 temporary workers

GOVERNOR Ralph DLG Torres in his revised proposal to appropriate American Rescue Plan Act funds included an allocation of $6 million for the hiring of 300 temporary workers, 50 of whom will be for Rota and 50 for Tinian.

The Republican governor’s expenditure plan for ARPA monies is in Volume IV of his fiscal year 2022 budget submission.

Democrat Rep. Vicente Camacho, a member of the House leadership, said they have to review the governor’s ARPA fund expenditure plan since the House is still working on the new fiscal year budget.

He said the allocation of $6 million for 300 temporary workers “caught their attention.”

“There’s a lot to review,” he added.

House Ways and Means Chairman Donald Manglona, an independent aligned with the Democrats, declined to comment “for now,” but in a recent budget hearing he said his committee was looking closely into the governor’s budget submission.

FY 2022 starts on Oct. 1, 2021. Without a new and balanced budget before that date, there will be a partial government shutdown.
