Governor asks cabinet members, community to take fitness challenge

AFTER setting out on a personal fitness journey in February, Gov. Ralph DLG Torres is now encouraging residents and his cabinet members to join him.

Torres was himself challenged by mixed martial arts professional Frank “The Crank” Camacho “to live and lead fit.”

Camacho created a diet and exercise program for Torres who said he is feeling the results.

“I have more energy, and that equates to more time with my family,” he added.

The governor said he is taking his fitness more seriously, and he is also meeting with a physical trainer and a nutritionist to be able to reach his personal goals.

“But this level of effort is not required for anyone in the community to strive for, only that they should do what they can to start living healthier,” he said.

“Good health is a tremendous defense against the effects of Covid-19. We have worked together to protect our community by wearing our masks, washing our hands, and watching our distance. The next step is to take control of our physical health and well-being,” Torres said.

It it is important that individuals continue to employ the 3Ws — wear masks, wash their hands, and watch their distance — but it is also imperative that they do more to steer people from “the worst-case scenario,” he added.

“Even outside of Covid-19, good health is a great defense against other ailments like high blood pressure and diabetes,” he said.

In addition to cardio workouts, waking up early in the morning also means that he is able to start working for the people of the Commonwealth as early as possible, the governor said.

He is hopeful that members of his cabinet will join the movement and start living and leading fit.

“My work day starts earlier, and I am good with this. Day in and day out, this gives me more time to dialogue with my senior staff about the business of serving our people. I am committed to live fit and lead fit, and I hope to motivate the cabinet to join this journey,” Torres said.
