Governor designates Irene Torres as acting DPL secretary

GOVERNOR Ralph DLG Torres on Monday designated Irene T. Torres as acting secretary of the Department of Public Lands.

Mrs. Torres is the director of DPL’s Homestead Division. She is also the sister of first lady Diann T. Torres, and the wife of the governor’s elder brother, attorney Jack Torres.

In his memorandum to all department and agency heads, the governor said effective May 10, Irene T. Torres “is hereby designated as acting secretary of the Department of Public Lands until further notice.”

He added, “Please extend your full cooperation to Mrs. Torres as she assumes this responsibility.”

The governor had to designate an acting DPL secretary following the resignation of former DPL Secretary Marianne Concepcion-Teregeyo who was named by the governor as  coordinator for the new Infrastructure and Recovery Office.

The office will focus on procurement, permitting and construction management/engineering for federally funded infrastructure and recovery projects.

Its mission is to “streamline” the permitting process for these projects so they can move forward in a timely manner, the governor said.
