MODERNIZING the business process will help the CNMI economy recover, Gov. Ralph DLG Torres said.
The governor said he agrees with the statements made by Mike Sablan, Triple J Enterprises Inc. vice president and Governor’s Council of Economic Advisers Domestic Policy and Recovery Committee chair.
Sablan has said that “starting construction projects or opening new businesses can be challenging due to the lengthy process to complete all the requirements, particularly in the permitting process.”
He believes that “the establishment of the Economic Business Center and the development of a coordinated and modernized system to handle business transactions will streamline the permitting, procurement, and contract management processes.”
The governor said there have been talks about making the Commonwealth more business-friendly by making the process for permitting and making payments a “one-stop shop.”
“That will definitely expedite the process and waiting time,” he added.
He likewise commended Department of Finance Secretary David DLG Atalig and his team for working on the Economic Business Center project.
Sablan said the “creation of the Economic Business Center will…play a significant role in our efforts to promote economic diversification in the Marianas. The Commonwealth Economic Development Authority, the primary agency tasked to promote the Marianas as an investment destination, needs an edge to persuade legitimate investors. Easing the process of doing business in the islands will help.”
