GPD continuing search for suspect in sexual assault

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — The Guam Police Department is continuing its search for one of two men suspected to be involved in the sexual assault of a 34-year-old woman.

On Wednesday, GPD spokesperson Officer Berlyn Savella confirmed with The Guam Daily Post that they are still in the process of searching for Scott Duenas III.

Last week, Duenas and Justin Benavante were subjects of a wanted flyer issued by the department in connection to a criminal sexual assault investigation stemming from an incident in late August.

Benavente was arrested over the weekend and charged in the Superior Court of Guam with third-degree criminal sexual conduct as a second-degree felony.

Duenas was also charged as Benavente’s co-defendant. However, Savella confirmed on Wednesday Duenas had yet to be located.

Complaint

Benavente and Duenas were both charged in connection to an incident that occurred on Aug. 25 at Nori’s Lounge in Hagåtña, where alcohol was consumed by the two men and a 34-year-old woman, whose identity remains anonymous.

The magistrate’s complaint filed states the victim was sitting next to Benavente, but her next memory “was that she was awoke to her legs being spread apart.”

The woman told police that she was naked and Duenas had forced himself on her, penetrating her with his penis, while Benavente forced her to perform fellatio.

“She stated that she felt disoriented and confused at the time. During that time, defendant Benavente and defendant Duenas flipped her over, that defendant Duenas forced his penis into her anus and that defendant Benavente again forced his penis in her mouth,” the complaint said.

According to the complaint, the victim passed out and later awoke naked, with Benavente in the same room.

The assault is alleged to have occurred in Nori’s Lounge.

An employee of the lounge told police that the woman appeared “heavily intoxicated” and had slurred speech.

Since being charged, Benavente was released on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond.

Wanted

The wanted flyer asks the community to contact GPD about Duenas’ whereabouts and not to approach him as he may flee if spotted. Duenas is believed to be avoiding authorities.

Duenas is 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes.

Duenas was last seen in the Dededo area, an area he is known to frequent along with Tumon, Tamuning and East Hågatña, according to the flyer.

If Duenas is located, contact the nearest precinct or Detective A.B. Diola Jr. via dispatch at 671-475-8615/16/17.
