HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — The three car collision that occurred Thursday evening was the result of a car encroaching into the oncoming lane, according to police.
During an investigation into the collision, which occurred on Route 10 in Mangilao near Uncle Cho’s Mart, it was discovered that a gray Toyota 4Runner was “traveling on the inner northbound lane, headed towards Barrigada, when the operator of a red Lexus traveling southbound encroached onto the northbound lane, resulting in a collision with the 4 Runner,” a Guam Police Department press release issued on Friday morning stated.
“Subsequently, the 4 Runner collided with a Mini Cooper traveling on the inner southbound lane. The 4 Runner overturned and came to a final rest at the scene,” the release stated before adding the Guam Highway Patrol Division activated an investigation.
Emergency responders from the Guam Fire Department responded to the scene as well, and transported a total of six occupants to the Guam Regional Medical City and Guam Memorial Hospital.
“Six individuals sustained non-fatal injuries, with the operator of the Mini Cooper currently in serious critical condition,” GPD stated.
GFD stated Thursday that the patient with serious injuries was a woman in her twenties.
As GPD started their investigation immediately after the crash, motorists were advised to seek alternative routes. By 6:25 p.m. less than an hour after the crash, northbound lanes on Route 10 were open, but southbound traffic was diverted to Leyang Road.
The investigation remains open.
“The Guam Police Department has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, and the case remains open as investigators work diligently to determine the cause,” GPD stated while also advising the community to “exercise caution.”
“In light of this incident, the Guam Police Department urges the community to exercise caution on the roads. Please remember to slow down your speed, wear your seatbelts and never drive while impaired,” GPD stated.
