HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — Small businesses and entrepreneurs can now apply for the Guam State Trade Expansion Program.
The Guam STEP, started by the Guam Economic Development Authority in 2021, assists and guides eligible small businesses to succeed in the international marketplace.
“Guam STEP provides a steppingstone for entrepreneurs to expand their reach into the global marketplace and take their businesses to another level,” said Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero.
There are several components of Guam STEP that businesses can partake in, such as the Export Readiness Program, International Marketing Program, Trade Promotion Program and Export Conference.
Eligible businesses have access to export training workshops in the international market, financial assistance, opportunities to participate in international trade shows, foreign trade missions and boosted revenue.
To be eligible, businesses must meet certain federal requirements, have a current Guam business license, certify that the company is not barred from receiving federal funds and be an export-ready U.S. company seeking to export goods or services of U.S. origin or that has at least 51% U.S. content.
“I encourage our small businesses to take advantage of the export trainings, business development support and access to international market opportunities that GEDA is providing through Guam STEP,” said GEDA CEO and Administrator Melanie Mendiola.
The deadline is 5 p.m. Jan. 16 and required forms must be submitted via email to step@investguam.com.
