All of the landslides happened on December 29th. The largest of the landslides brought down power poles in the Ngchesar – near Shimizu’s Jungle River Cruise – which caused power-outages sections of the power grid throughout Babeldoab.
Personnel of the Palau Public Utilities Corporation (PPUC) worked feverishly, despite the weather conditions, to replace the poles and managed to restore power. Two other major landslides occurred in in Ngaremlengui (between the PTC quarry and Dr. Robert’s farm) and Ngatpang (between Nabeyama’s farm and Ibobang). Both of the landslides blocked off traffic for some time on the Compact Road that runs the west coast of Babeldoab. The land, which had spilled over unto the road, has since been cleared. However, officials ask motorist to be cautious when driving on the Compact Road – especially near sections of the road that border hills. Moreover, motorist are asked to be courteous of other people who use the road and those who work to keep it clean and free of debris.
