Historic site of Airai State under restoration

The grants of $2,000.00 each was given by the Bureau of Arts and Culture/Ministry of Community and Cultural Affairs and the Airai State Government (ASG)

The restoration of the historic site was began on May 1, 2010 and will be completed by September 30, 2010.

The Ngaraseseb Organization of Ordomel Hamlet has been selected to be the contractor of the project. They will be responsible to clean and restore the landing dock and all the other features within the Chelechol Ra Orrak Site. While working on the site, they will make sure the original integrity of the site will be maintained.

On Thursday, April 29, 2010, the Ngaraseseb Organization and the office of the Governor of the Airai State Government executed a Memorandum of Understanding that specified how the works will be done and the first partial payment of the project was released to the contractor.

The Chelechol Ra Orrak was registered and entered into the Palau National Register of Historic Places on May 16, 2003.

This historic site is currently in the process for inclusion in the World Heritage Site.

According to the ASG, once it is included in the World Heritage Site, it may be eligible for any kinds of international assistance.
