MEMBERS of the House minority bloc have stepped up their involvement in the Governor’s Council of Economic Advisers’ public-private partnership program by rehabilitating various sports facilities and parks in the villages.
In an interview on Thursday, Rep. Angel Demapan said over the last several months, they have restored many dilapidated basketball courts and public parks.
These community projects, he said, are part of their commitment to the GCEA’s public-private partnership program.
He said the minority bloc members and their staff’s latest community project is the rehabilitation of Saipan Skate Park in Garapan.
Starting Monday, he said their team, along with some teenagers who use the park, have cleaned up the facility, painted new murals and applied special paint to help keep the surfaces safe for skateboarding.
“After assessing the design of the skate park, we decided to paint ocean-themed designs on one portion while the other portion is designed with a variation of modern and contemporary pieces,” Demapan said.
“This is one of the larger scale projects we’ve undertaken, but based on the number of young skaters coming to the park every afternoon, it gives us a great sense of gratitude to see how impactful this project is. Just like what we’ve done with the basketball courts in the villages, the rehabilitation of the skate park is in line with our goal of fostering health, wellness, and camaraderie for our youth,” Demapan added.
The minority bloc, he said, would like to thank their partners for this project: the Tan Siu Lin Foundation, Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang, the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services and the office of House Floor Leader Ralph Yumul.
