BUREAU of Motor Vehicles Director Juana Deleon Guerrero is scheduled to appear before the House Judiciary and Governmental Operations Committee on Aug. 9, to testify in the ongoing investigation of Gov. Ralph DLG Torres’ public expenditures.
Deleon Guerrero will be accompanied by her legal counsel, Anthony Aguon.
The committee will also issue subpoenas to Department of Public Safety investigation chief Simon Manacop as well as officers Jose Saures, Alex Sakisat, Daniel Joab, Joey Cruz and Adrian Mendiola.
The committee likewise approved the issuance of subpoenas to Finance Secretary David DLG Atalig, his predecessor, Larrisa Larson, and a private citizen, Erin V. Camacho.
In an interview on Monday, the House JGO chairwoman, Rep. Celina R. Babauta, said the committee will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 9 to hear BMV Director Juana Deleon Guerrero’s testimony.
As for the DPS Boating Safety Unit, Babauta said it has asked for 30 days to respond to the subpoena duces tecum for the documents pertaining to the governor’s travels using DPS boats.
Deleon Guerrero will be asked about, among other things, the reimbursement the governor received for a car battery for his personal vehicle on the same day that he transferred ownership of the vehicle to a private citizen.
According to the House JGO, records showed that the governor purchased a battery for his personal vehicle on Jan. 28, 2019 for $122.10, and then submitted to the Department of Finance a receipt for the battery with a request for reimbursement dated Jan. 30, 2019. The vehicle at that time was registered under the governor’s name.
Records obtained from BMV showed that on the day the governor purchased the car battery, he transferred ownership of the vehicle to another individual, a private citizen, the House JGO stated.
The chairwoman of the House Judiciary and Governmental Operations Committee, Celina R. Babauta, presides over a hearing in the House chamber.
