House panel OKs Saipan master map

THE House Committee on Commerce and Tourism on Tuesday approved House Bill 22-82 which proposes a new official master map for Saipan.

Speaker Edmund S. Villagomez introduced the measure.

During the committee meeting, Rep. Richard Lizama made a motion to recommend that the House of Representatives pass the bill.

The committee is chaired by Rep. Denita Yangetmai, and besides Lizama, its other members are Reps. Corina Magofna and Vicente Camacho.

Lizama noted that public hearings had been conducted by committee.

For his part, Camacho said the bill would enhance the island’s emergency response, and help the mail services resolve the “congestion” of parcels at the post office.

There are some “misspelled” street names in the map provided by the bill, he said but he is ready to support the bill as those issues can be addressed by technical amendments that can be done in the House.

All the members present voted to adopt the committee report recommending the passage of H.B. 22-82.

According to the bill, the names of Saipan’s villages are Marpi,  As Matuis, San Roque, Tanapag. Wireless,  Talofofo, Lower Base, As Mahetog, Sadog Tasi, Puerto Rico,  Capitol Hill, As Teo, Kagman, Papago, Tapochao, Navy Hill, Garapan, Gualo Rai, l-Liyan, Chalan Laulau, Oleai, Chalan Kiya, Kanat Tabla, San Vicente, Dandan, As Lito, Finasisu, Chalan Kanoa, Chalan Piao, As Perdido, San Antonio, Koblerville,  I Naftan and Susupe.

I Liyang is a small village south of Garapan, located in an area on Gualo Rai Road next to True Value-Yco Hardware, and includes Pumpkin Street north of Triple J Motors.

As Mahetog is between Tanapag and Sadog Tasi, from the center lane of Isa Drive to the east of Managaha Lane past the former Saipan Zoo.
