Hundreds enjoy first Fiesta Friday

HUNDREDS of residents including children gathered at the NMI Museum grounds for the first Fiesta Friday.

NMI Museum Administrative Assistant Archie Ajoste said Fiesta Friday is a weekly event that takes place at the museum grounds in Garapan from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Children enjoyed the bouncy castle and snacks. Guest performers included local singers and dancers, and there were at least 13 vendors of food, drinks and accessories. Among the food vendors were Lynn’s Barbecue, Mini Thai Catering, Chowtime, Heavenly Bites, RJ’s Pizza, Tyler’s Gelatte Stone and Isla Shave Ice.

Accessories vendors included Hybrid Shop, Islandry 670, Sofia’s, Talofa Lava-Flowerpot Creations and Magpag Inc.

The Covid-19 Care Force, for its part, gave away Covid-19 test kits and free water while M2 Fitness members conducted a Zumba dance workout.

Ajoste said when he was still in junior high school he loved going to the Thursday Street Market.

“Every Thursday I used to take the $1 shuttle bus from Chalan Kanoa or Susupe that went to every hotel and ended up at Duty Free Shop Garapan where I got off and walked to the Street Market in Garapan to meet my friends,” he said.

Ajoste said Fiesta Friday “reminds me of those memories.”

In the “Covid-19 era,” he added, “people want or need something to do so they can enjoy their Friday nights.”

In the near future, he said they will add lip-synch, karaoke and a battle of the bands competition in the program.

“Who knows, maybe we can also get famous singers or dancers to perform on Fiesta Friday,” he added.

Ajoste wants to thank Dave Electronics for sponsoring the stage and the LED lights, the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services, Environmental Health Disease Prevention, and the Department of Public Safety for making the event possible.

He also thanked the vendors, Marianas Inflatables for the bouncy castle, the performers and the masters of ceremonies Gordon Marciano and John Hosono.

Ajoste said there will be more entertainment and vendors this Friday.
