I Hagan Famalåo’an Guåhan and others donate to Chuuk Regional Hospital Maternity Ward

HAGÅTÑA (Press Release) — I Hagan Famalåo’an Guåhan collected various donations from members, other organizations, and the community to donate to the Chuuk Regional Hospital Maternity Ward.

This initiative was inspired by our dear friend Christina Stinnet, also known as KiKi, former president of Chuuk Women’s Council and was spearheaded by our member Chaina Pereira in collaboration with the Social Work Student Alliance, National Association of Women in Construction, the Hemlani Foundation, and the Chuuk Women’s Council.

“It is a part of our Inafa’maolek yan A’ayuda traditions to reach out to our brothers and sisters in Chuuk,” Co-mañelu Audrea Mendiola stated after presenting the gifts to Corky Benito, president of the Chuuk Women’s Council, who will be transporting the donations to Chuuk. Donations were comprised of infant clothes, diapers, baby bottles, blankets, and other essential items at the request of First Lady Patricia E. Edwin of the Federated States of Micronesia.

Alongside battling Covid-19 throughout the Pacific, there are still many other social issues that exist on our islands such as poverty, lack of adequate healthcare and resources. I Hagan Famalåo’an Guåhan has come together in solidarity with our sisters and children of Chuuk in the spirit of support and love.  We look forward to our continued partnership with the Chuuk Women’s Council as we work together for a united Micronesia!
