But yesterday, news of the country’s former attorney general Julian Moti’s victory in the High Court in Australia has been described as a ‘relief’ by the former Prime Minister.
“I feel like a blanket has been removed from over my head,” Sogavare said.
“For the past years, I have been keeping my head low awaiting this Court decision because only then it would speak volumes of the decisions I made when I was Prime Minister.”
Sogavare said the Australian High Court decision yesterday has indicated that he was right all along as he was defending the sovereignty of the country.
The former Prime Minister said from the very day he appointed Moti as the country’s attorney general he knew he was right.
However, Sogavare said the Australian charges were politically motivated to prevent Moti‘s political appointment which was seen as contrary to Australia’s national interests.
