Inmate charged for escape and assault and battery

Roy Klewei was charged with assault and battery, escape and trespassing.

He appeared for arraignment on February 20 and entered a not guilty plea to the charges.Klewei was represented with Assistant Public Defender Jason Shaw while Assistant Attorney General Anthony DeRuiz appeared on behalf of the government.Klewei was charged for escaping from Subelek farm on November 22 and 23, 2008 and for poking an umbrella to another person several times causing injuries to the victim.Klewei was imprisoned at the Subelek farm when the incident happened. He was convicted of a first degree murder in 1990 and was sentenced for life imprisonment.Klewei is now detained at the Koror jail.The affidavit of the Bureau of Public Safety stated that the Patrol Division on November 22 received a call from the victim who reported that he was beaten up by Klewei.The incident happened at the victim’s residence in Nekken, Aimeliik.According to the affidavit, the victim’s father asked the victim to go outside to check on why the dog was barking.The victim went outside and flashed his flashlight on the man outside which upset the defendant.The defendant got irked and chased the victim and started poking him with an umbrella.The defendant entered the victim’s residence without permission from the owner, the victim’s father.The defendant left after the victim’s father confronted him.The defendant was arrested later at his girlfriend’s residence.
