Inmate smokes meth, posts photos on social media

USING a smuggled cellphone, Gerald Sablan, an inmate, has posted photos on social media showing him smoking methamphetamine in his prison cell.

It was a Corrections officer who brought in the cellphone and meth, Variety learned.

Asked for comment, Department of Corrections Commissioner Anthony Torres said the Corrections officer was placed on administrative leave, but it was not related to any contraband.

He declined to provide additional information about the officer or inmate.

Variety learned that on Saturday, a Corrections officer picked up food in a bento box outside the Corrections facility. He was supposed to deliver it to an inmate, but other Corrections officers found meth and a cellphone inside the bento box.

There are several criminal cases in local and federal courts indicating that illicit drugs and other contraband were being smuggled into the Corrections facility.

This is a developing story.
