Interior’s assistant secretary for insular areas, Anthony Babauta, informed YSPSC that the award provides partial funding for its request, which was originally submitted in May of this year.
The original amount requested by YSPSC to conduct the training program was $405,350, but this amount was reduced by Interior due to the U.S. government’s budgetary constraint.
Because of the reduced funding, Babauta requested YSPSC to provide a revised training schedule based on the reduced funding amount.
The Pacific Lineman Training Programs aims to train YSPSC workers in the necessary skills needed to perform repair and maintenance for lines and power equipment throughout Yap and the FSM.
Babauta said the training program will be reviewed next year in order to seek more cost-effective alternatives in the future.
