Isechal says Ueki’s letter “inaccurate and misleading”

Isechal in a letter to President Toribiong  said members of Congress composing of Sen. Tommy Remengesau , Del. Celestine Yangilmau and him were invited to attend the Japan –Palau Parliamentary Friendship League meeting by Takeshi Kamimoto .

Isechal said they did not asked to be invited and is currently unaware of a written policy that requires the legislative and the judicial branches of government to make all travel arrangements to other nations through the Ministry of State.“While it is certainly through that the Constitution grants the power and duty to conduct negotiations with foreign nations to the president, Ueki fails to recognize that the Constitution also places very important responsibilities regarding foreign affairs under the care of Olbiil Era Kelulau (OEK),” Isechal said.He stressed that the OEK has the power to provide for the national defense, to ratify treaties and to regulate commerce with foreign nations. Further , the Senate has the power to confirm certain presidential appointments,  such ambassadorships. Making trips abroad allows members of the OEK to take advantage of educational opportunities and experiences that enable us to better exercise our oversight functions. He however said that he will welcome opportunity  to discuss the issue of official travel protocols with Ueki.Ambassador  Ueki said that Palau officials should discontinue breach of protocol when visiting Japan. In a letter to  Toribiong Ueki said that there were members of the  OEK  who includes Sen. Tommy Remengesau who did not observe proper diplomatic protocol by failing to inform the Palau Embassy there of such visits. The  supposed meeting was between members of the OEK  and members of the Palau Parliamentary League of Japanese Diet.Ueki said that he was not informed by the OEK nor the Palau Ministry of State about such meeting and only knew of the matter when the Japan Ministry of Foreign Affairs asked the embassy about the visit.
