Islandwide search underway for Tamuning shooting suspects

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — An island wide manhunt is underway for two men suspected of shooting a woman at a Thai restaurant in Tamuning on Wednesday night.

On Thursday, the Guam Police Department confirmed in a press release that on Wednesday night at Thai Thai Healthy Cuisine Restaurant in Tamuning, a robbery incident resulted in a woman sustaining a gunshot wound that left her in critical condition at Guam Memorial Hospital.

While police have asked the community to be on the lookout for two male suspects, one who is believed to be 5 foot, 7 inches tall and was seen wearing a black long-sleeved hoodie and a white ski mask, and a second suspect who is described as taller than the first suspect, prosecutor Sean Brown said Friday morning in the Superior Court of Guam that there is an island wide search in progress for the suspects.

“Two days ago, there was another shooting in Tamuning that’s resulting in island wide efforts by GPD and law enforcement to hunt down two suspected possible killers, … hopefully she hasn’t passed away yet,” Brown said.

Later on Friday, GPD issued a press release stating “all available resources” have been utilized to assist in the investigation.

“We are utilizing all available resources to assist in the investigation, including detectives from the Criminal Investigation Section, Juvenile Investigation Section and Special Investigations Section. Additionally, all Task Force officers have been recalled, and the Special Operations Division is actively engaged in advancing the investigation,” GPD stated.

The victim continued to receive medical attention as of Friday afternoon, according to GPD.

A viral message online reported the shooting before police issued a press release. The message said the suspects robbed the woman as she was getting into her car, and then took off with the car.

The information has yet to be confirmed, GPD said, adding that the integrity of the investigation must be prioritized.

“Therefore, certain details may not be immediately releasable to avoid compromising the ongoing efforts,” GPD said in the Friday release.

Anyone with information about the incident that occurred about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday is asked to call GPD dispatch at 671-475-8615~7.

Delays

Brown revealed that islandwide efforts were underway in the shooting case while he was attending a hearing for a murder case relating to the death of a 1-year-old boy. The child’s mother, Giltinan Ramangmou, has been charged with murder, and the father, Paul John Tuncap Cruz, has been charged with child abuse.

Brown brought up the search because there are several pending issues to be resolved in the homicide case, including Ramangmou’s polygraph test results and an interview of an underage witness. The interview was interrupted because Pamela Ann Tuncap Toves, the grandmother of the young witness, allegedly talked to the witness during a break in the interview and was charged with witness tampering.

“I need to see that discovery, as well, for that newer criminal matter, so I’m doing everything I can to get the discovery. It’s just going to take a little while due to the islandwide law enforcement attention being brought on the newer potential homicide,” Brown said to Judge Vernon Perez.

“I understand the court’s desire to provide these things to the defense and I would like to echo that desire, … it’s just not going to happen right away,” Brown added.

According to Post files, proceedings in Ramangmou’s and Cruz’s cases were delayed earlier this year because of the death of a Korean tourist in Tumon.
