Charge d’ Affaires Kunio Nakamura said the artworks are the work of two very famous and prominent Japanese artists and they are Yoshiko Saratani and Horin Fukuoji .Nakamura said that “Japanese painting is most noted for its wide range of styles in a extensive array of formats from horizontal and hanging scrolls to album leaves, fans, walls and free standing and sliding screens.”The “Irises in the Wilds,” is the work of Saratani who was born in Osaka in 1942 and attended and graduated from Kyoto City Institute of Fine Arts in 1964.Saratani in 1967 received an award from the Japan Fine Arts Exhibition or “Nitten” one of the most authoritative arts exhibition in Japan.Fukuohji’s work meanwhile is “Himalayan Morning” who was born in 1920 and in 1971 received the Prime Minister’s Award for his work.Fukuohji also received “order of culture” of Japan which is awarded to individuals who have contributed to the promotion and popularization of Japanese culture.The Japanese Embassy also donated a painting to the Belau National Hospital.The donation is a replica of a painting called “waterfall cherry blossoms at Kuon Temple, Yamanashi Prefecture by Chinami Nakajima.He said that last New Year’s Eve he was accorded professional care by Minister Victor Yano and the staff of the hospital that is why it is small token of gratitude for the care provided.A small reception was held to unveil the artworks.
